HONORING THE WINTER SOLSTICE
DECEMBER 21, 2023

On December 21st, 2023, our Community Wellness Department hosted a Winter Solstice celebration, the longest night of the year. Youth, families and community members were invited to share prayers at our fire, a potluck dinner, participate in crafts and share stories about everything that was lived and learned throughout the year. One of our I-LEAD youth, Shayla French, returned and hosted a table with crafts for sale. I-LEAD is our Indigenous Leadership, Empowerment, and Develop program for older youth and young adults between the ages 16-24. Community members were able to pick up some wonderful handmade necklaces, earrings, and ornaments for the holiday season.

Also, our welcoming of winter included drumming & songs from our community member drum. Folks of all ages reminisced about old times and developed new relationships with visitors who showed up for the fun. The atmosphere was fabulous and festive!

We appreciate everyone that came out and shared their cooking expertise of various foods and sweets. Your participation made it one of the best Solstices ever.
